LTV G175K-2 SHF Receiver |
You don't see the label 'SHF' (Super High Frequency) very often in these days of GHz computers. SHF was once the high frontier of radio. The G175 series includes many radios from several different manufacturers although CEI and Nems-Clarke appear to be the most prevalent. See the G175 Technical Information Datasheet or the LTV equipment directory for a comparison of the various versions of this model.
This is an LTV G175K. It is close to the WJ-8730 series of receivers but this unit contained 1-2 GHz and 2-4 GHz tuners not found in the WJ series. The front panel is plexiglas painted matte black. The front panel is backlit with the 28 V lights powered separately through the rear panel (from the airplane).
I found this receiver at a hamfest. It is missing the 1-2 GHz tuner, which is apparently custom made for this radio and has no direct WJ counter part. It receives AM, FM and CW and has bandwidths of 10, 40 & 300 kHz and 10 MHz. The SDU displays sweep widths of 25 kHz, 1 MHz and 4 MHz.
This radio is packed. The tuners are modular and can be unplugged and removed with the turn of a few screws. The manual says it can be loaded with tuners covering various ranges from 30 MHz up to 1 GHz. This is the first variation of this radio I have seen that covers the 1 - 4 GHz range. Construction quality is superb. Obviously a CEI/ WJ built receiver.
Most LTV receivers use 'snap' Deutsch connectors (center bottom with red insulators). These are hard to find and it is common to find them removed and cobbled to make the radio operational.
